Keeping it militaristic, a ragtag band of punk soldiers invades Anonymous Gallery after successfully taking Venice. Pankabestia: Punk Beasts of the Swimming Cities of Serenissima (169 Bowery between Broome and Delancey Sts; 646-238-9069, anonymousgallery.com; 6–9pm, free with mandatory R.S.V.P. to rsvp@anonymousgallery.com) is a retrospective of artist Swoon’s expedition across the Adriatic Sea. She sailed with 30 others on three DIY vessels from the Karst region of Slovenia to Venice, making a splash at the Venice Biennale.

“Pankabestia: Punk Beasts of the Swimming Cities of Serenissima,” is a retrospective of artist Swoon’s “Swimming Cities of Serenissima,” her recent invasion of the Venice Biennale. Traveling from the Karst region of Slovenia to Venice, Italy, Swoon and 30+ artists braved the waters of the Adriatic Sea and navigated a fleet of three intricately hand crafted vessels. Listen. Haiti REALLY needs our help. Really. The poverty there is unthinkable–people eating dirt cakes to get nutrition out of them–people working in the sugar cane fields but not being paid enough to get enough food to survive. Plus living in a warzone and getting hit with a hurricane. Can you imagine? This year we were pretty close to the Haitian crisis when we were robbed in the dominican republic.

My friend Colin and his girlfriend Dina are hosting an event this Saturday to benefit hurricane disaster relief efforts in Haiti.  Come get loaded, blow all of your Friday pay and feel good about it.  I am djing the afterparty alongside DJ K-tel (Hangar 18, official TuntableLab clothing model, Brooklyn/IN) & DJ Curly (Workshop Sounds Ent., Philly).  NOTHING beats a loft party with good djs. Of course, I’m bringing the lights and air horn.

In addition to Haitian-themed cocktails to drink and baked goods to eat, there will be a raffle for prizes and gift certificates from Outlier Performance Clothing, Affinity Cycles, Urban Rustic, M Shanghai Bistro, Mishka, King Kog, Laek House, Continuum Cycles, Trackstar, Supermighty, Cyclehawk, Freight Baggage, Wheelove, & Snap Delivery.

And now I talk I talk some shit about the wackest thing in the room. This girls on bikes project has been featured at the last 2 BFF’s. Can we talk about how dumb this shit is? I really like the fellow who did this project. He’s a nice guy. Still, would you look at this crap? Someone had the brilliant idea of putting up a sign next to this which said ‘bikes are objects, women are not,’ though you wouldn’t know it from the confusion this project produces. With its sultry subjects, the women pictured in most of these images could be in any crap women’s magazine. Way to push the status quo. I think this project ought to be scrapped. It reminds me of the last onion that came out with the brilliant article “Women now empowered by everything a woman does” I know that SOMEONE who will go unmentioned claimed, insultingly, that this project was a way to include women in the festival. That’s like saying the oiled up babes at car shows are a way to include women in the fun of the car show. Rad. Go feminist car shows!
