PLEASE HELP HOLLIS

this is a really sad note from harrison, please give what you can:

Hello friends and family,
So as many of you know, and many of you don’t as I have not even talked to you in a while.  I am in the midst of a crazy tragedy here in southern India.  I was travelling with my sweetheart Hollis by motorcycle and the worst possible scenario has unfolded.  She was in an accident that took a freak turn and I will spare you the gorey details (and they are gorey) but end result, she is in a coma with the most serious injury one can sustain.  She has a serious brain stem injury.  This is the part of the brain that controls and is connected to everything.  The accident happened at 11:30 am on Tuesday Feb. 24th, it is now 5:30 am on Monday March 2nd as I am writing this (I don’t sleep).  This is what’s going on…  The treatment she is recieving is okay, for India.  There are however huge rats scurrying about on the floor.  I am sleeping on the ant covered floor outside her room as I am not allowed in and the water they have used for many procedures is not even purified.  Today as the final straw they would not allow her own mother who has just flown here from Tennessee with emergency support from the US consulate to see her own daughter when she inquired.  She has been allowed some of the time but they sort of shame you/ are mean to you to make you not ask for visitation.  They are not observing her brain pressure and have done nothing to alleviate the swelling in her brain.  These are things that can make of break her early on in her recovery and healing process.  Her chances are slim.  Her chances are slimmer here in Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, India.  So we miraculously got her accepted to Stanford which is one of the best hospitals in the world.  Also, as a charity case which is very rare, since she has no insurance.  So what we need now is to get her there.  I am reaching out to everyone I know to help us get an ICU Plane (a.k.a. air ambulance) to fly her back to California.  If anyone knows anyone with a plane we could rent or has anybody in the Air Ambulance industry or a doctor who could volunteer their time to come and get her and fly her to Stanford and reduce the cost… those things would be amazing.  The reality of the situation is that we need to raise $150,000 dollars, now for the quote we have.  There is a blog that Hollis’s best bud Eliza (from her bicycle dance troupe the SF Derailleurs) started: friendsofhollis.blogspot.com and it has a donate button on it.  I would like to urge everyone to give something to this button even if it is 5 dollars and then pass it on to everyone they know.  Hopefully we can all figure out a way to give $1,000 whether it be by sheer generosity or organizing a fundraiser where ever this reaches you.  Send it to people who know her and send it to anyone who is a compassionate person and knows what its like to lose a bright brilliant star of a person.  She is an amazing performer, heart, bicycle and food activist and so much more, in San Francisco (and everywhere) and we need to do everything we can while we have the possiblity, to bring her back.  It was crazy to go through my contacts to select everyone to send this to and see the amount of amazing people who are no longer alive on it and how badly I don’t want to add her to this group.  Please help however you can even if its just keeping her in your thoughts and sending healing energies and magic.  You can write me with any questions or support or call/text anytime, day or night.
Thank you more than anyone can be thanked, for everything you have all done so far, you have kept me going in my darkest hour. Please forward this on.  Put it on myspace, facebook, your blog, craigslist, tribe, tell everyone.
love and teary thanks,
harrison

INTERNET PLANT!

Who is this guy?!

This really cool guy Dennis I know routinely astonishes the average nerd with shit like this.

What? You’ve never heard of Botanicalls? Magic technology that connects plants to the Twitter!

www.botanicalls.com/

Buy the kit, solder it all together, connect it to the internets (!), stick it in your plant… and then your plant sends you Twitter messages telling you how it’s doing (and when it needs light / water / love). Awesome!

Follow it!

IN WHICH I GET TOTALLY OUTED AND DON’T NOTICE FOR 2 YEARS

ha! i know the woodland theme is long since tired and hopefully i’ve weathered the storm, or continue to do so. i didn’t even wear antlers to bike kill this year!  nonetheless, a social document using the antler metaphor is timeless if not overly confusing. i’m totally going to make a post about how “bobble-bee” girls are so five minutes ago. or how this post is so two years ago. he he.

Antlered Girls
For some reason antlers are a constant theme both in Fashion and Art/Design. Even a quite known girl in the New York social art world named her blog as The Secret Life of Antlered Girls.

Placing antlers in people gives the subject certain modernity that i didn’t understand why yet, although i am the first one to recognize such.

This year Banana Republic Christmas ad is a girl with, ehem, antlers. I’m sure when publicists were thinking about an idea for the new campaign they did about Santa’s reindeers but never before an antler tiara has meant “cool” as it does now; I can’t imagine a label as Banana Republic placing this accessory in a pretty girl for a Christmas ad before.

Even though this topic is already a little over it seems it’s still creating some attraction in people.

THE BLOGGER BAILOUT

Did you see this? Moveable Type is bailing out laid-off journalists and bloggers. It could be argued that Moveable Type ought to be free, like wordpress, drupal and a number of other open-source publishing platforms and that it’s lame that they’re proprietary. It could also be argued that the blogger bailout isn’t likely to be all that effective. The support package is undoubtedly pretty neat, however.

FUNEMPLOYED!

So I went halfway home to learn I was coming back to a job I had actually been laid off from! Whoa. So I’m home and that’s cool and now I’m gonna chill out and see how long I can do odd jobs for. Need a professional toenail or apartment painter? Need someone to update your blog while you’re at work totally not blogging? Professional afternoon bloody mary drinker? How about a style consultant or someone who knows a lot about the coast guard? I’m here for you.

ANTLERS HAS GOTTEN LAZY IN HER OLD AGE. MISS ROCKAWAY RUNS HER INTO THE GROUND.

Oh well! So. All is well. No. All is grand! I resigned from one of jobs today. Woo hoo! I’ll be going down the river this summer. Yay!

Okay, so. Lots of good fun things have happened lately. Much partying and carrying on. I haven’t spent any money on anything except laundry in 2 days. I did my laundry.

Here are some pics from Ed Zipco’s photoshoot party at the Brooklyn Industries Gallery in which he constructed a human slingshot with a mattress landing pad. Also pics from the Sweville show and the Miss Rockaway benefit art show opening Also, a small surprise asshole splasher manifesto that appeared on the ground.

Check out the flickr gallery here

Ahahaha. From the Skewville Orchard Street Art Gallery Closing Party! See the whole thing here.

AHHHHHH.

Tonight I learned to tune a guitar. Last night at Ashley and (Bonfire) Madigan and Jane LeCroy’s birthday party I sang the night away and it was fun. Thursday’s Miss Rockaway Armada benefit show went very well. There are still some amazing pieces left, so if you haven’t seen the show, look at it on flickr here.  Anyway, tonight I made myself tune a guitar that I brought home from Todd’s house to play. I wasn’t quite getting it perfect so he called me on the phone and listened to me tuning and we figured it out. That was pretty nice. Also, I slept till 3 and then rode my bike in the rain to coney island for the marching band thing and grub at coney island. but they did grub early so i missed it. it was a nice ride anyway.

MY CRAIGSLIST PLEA FOR BOAT

Looking for a cheap boat for an amazing project - $1

Reply to: sale-292462723@craigslist.org
Date: 2007-03-12, 12:04AM CDTI’m a member of the Mississippi River’s Miss Rockaway Armada. You might have met us when we came to Minneapolis, Red Wing, Winona, LaCrosse, Prairie Du Chien, Dubuque, Clinton and all the cities along the river before Andalusia, Ill. last year. We’re a huge raft made of all kinds of scrap materials, including 2 diesel engines from Volkswagen rabbits, converted to run biodiesel with longtail props attached. It’s a kind of arts troupe. We come to town and do a show and hold workshops during the day and do face painting for kids and play music. This year we’re interested in building a few satellite rafts and being more of an armada. I’d like to find or buy a cheap 16′-22′ (approx) boat with a working motor and then convert it to run on bike power by building a bike power apparatus to drop into the water over the transom and then and likely building out some pontoons behind the transom to even the weight and attach the motor to.I wonder if you might have an inexpensive boat with a working motor that might sound good for this project. We have very little money but a lot of heart and if you have a boat in your midst that might sound like a good base for this kooky idea we’d be grateful.Check out our website to see pictures: http://www.missrockaway.org, more pictures here: http://www.everydayilive.com/armada

Read the articles about us at the link below. there was one in the star tribune but i can’t find it online:
