A lot of people are rejoicing about this, but I don’t necessarily agree with them. Falwell was a huge liability to the GOP because he splintered the party in a way that separated the moderates from the lunatics. He could have helped us Dems win the ‘08 election, especially now that (”pro-choice”) Giuliani is the front-runner.
Yeah totally. The rejoicing is perhaps a bit smug. But I think you might also see it as someone who polarized things being out of the picture. The repubs have certainly pulled the middle much further to the right than in previous years, and people like Falwell verbalized all the craziness of the right. Plus, the dude had serious reach!
